Served on the School Council 1903-1951, he was clearly a devoted loyal quiet man. An accountant by profession, Mr Gilfillan served many years as School Treasurer and Board Secretary. Letters written to him by the Headmistress Miss Edwards, suggest he was also a man with a keen sense of humour.

Eventually, Mr Gilfillan formed the company of Gilfillan, Gentles and Steen and his partners also went on to serve on the School Council.
