Date1953 - 2006LocationIntermediate SchoolDescriptionA loan of £10,000 was arranged to finance a new Intermediate School classroom block in 1952. Costing £6,700, the prefabricated building was erected on the Junior School playing field at the rear of the Senior School building to accommodate the arrival of ninety extra pupils in 1953.
Work on the new Intermediate School eventually got under way in March 1964. Costing an estimated £30,500, the new one-storeyed block contained four classrooms, with an art and crafts room at one end and a cloakroom at the other. It was completed in time for the start of the third term in September and was dedicated by Eric Gowing (Simkin's successor as Bishop of Auckland) on Founders' Day in November. It became known as the 'I' Block once it was opened.
The Senior and Intermediate Schools amalgamated into a single Form 1-7 Secondary Department in 1979. The building was still used after the amalgamation but mainly by the mathematics department. The building was used until 2006 when it was decommissioned when the development of the new swimming pool and sports turf was proposed.
