Mitchelson House was established as early as 1923. It is named after Sir Edwin Mitchelson, one of the School's Founders and Chairman of the School Council from 1903 until 1927. Sir Edwin was a dedicated churchman and served on the vestry of St Matthew in the city. He was variously MP for Hobson, acting Prime Minister and Minister of Railways.
Mitchelson had a reputation for unfailing optimism, an ability to get things done and for his generosity of spirit. He was also a keen gardener and donated many trees and shrubs to the School from its founding in 1904 until his death in 1934.
The Church bell and its tower are a memorial to Sir Edwin Mitchelson. Lady Mitchelson presented the bell to the School in 1937 and pupils and Old Girls presented the tower, built of jarrah wood and copper.
