Sir Edwin was a dedicated churchman and served on the vestry of St Matthew in the city. He was variously MP for Hobson, acting Prime Minister and Minister of Railways.
Mitchelson had a reputation for unfailing optimism, an ability to get things done and for his generosity of spirit. He was also a keen gardener and donated many trees and shrubs to the School from its founding in 1904 until his death in 1934.
The Church bell and its tower are a memorial to Sir Edwin Mitchelson. Lady Mitchelson presented the bell to the School in 1937 and pupils and Old Girls presented the tower, built of jarrah wood and copper.
