Miss Shrewsbury came to Diocesan from Trinidad and Tobago, where she had been a very young appointee to the Headship of the Bishop Anstey School in Port-of-Spain. Academically, she taught French and History, though she was also a capable musician.
She died in 2001 and Former Chief Justice Old Girl Sian Elias, in her eulogy for Miss Shrewsbury, revealed that she called the naughty girls ‘the tigers’. Instead of telling them off, she would simply involve them in whatever she was up to until they felt able to rejoin their classmates rather than fulminating further mischief.
