Ann Mildenhall came to Dio in 1988 to teach English and was successfully the Head of the Department and Duty Principal during her time here. She left in 1994 to be the Principal of Queen Margaret College in Wellington.

She was chosen to be the person to succeed Gail Thomson as Principal of Dio in 2003. Even after 8 years away, she was was still remembered fondly by a number of the school staff and the board was delighted to 'welcome her back into the school family'. In 2008, she made the decision to retire and left Diocesan School for Girls in October of that year. She had successfully run the school for five years.
